## v2 — 2026-06-25

**Major revision.** Replaces the Dunbar's-number framing with the Oscillator Model.

### Updated (session 2, 2026-06-25 evening)
- **`oscillator-model.md` §5.5 NEW** — Honest-vs-Functional Tension section. Acknowledges Granovetter strong/weak ties as an axis the model does NOT capture; ego-depletion replication crisis (Hagger 23-lab d=0.04, 2021 multi-site N≈3500) means the energy metaphor has no proven physiological substrate; symmetric-ζ erases Gottman's one-sided-repair pattern (the strongest predictor of failure); the resolution is functional compression at protocol level + radical honesty at theory level + clear flagging of which level we're speaking at.
- **`oscillator-model.md` §6.1 NEW** — Honest caveat on "energy". Explicit statement that "energy" is metaphorical scaffolding, not physiological substrate. Documents the replication crisis in ego-depletion research as the reason the Oscillator Model does not inherit empirical legitimacy from that tradition.
- **`cascade-hexgrid-spec.md` R0 updated** — R0 ("You") is now explicitly the **sovereign's seat**: the irreducible observer-actor, reference point for all other rings, not a relationship that can be promoted/demoted. tenchi's confirmation, 2026-06-25.
- **`decisions/2026-06-25-merge-vs-separate.md` NEW** — Full decision record for Hearts vs Hourglasses merge question (also Moons-into-Stars, Balloons-into-Hearts). Three options analyzed: merge (Option A, rejected as primary), separate (Option B, recommended), composite-with-drill-down (Option C, recommended as v2.1 enhancement). Decision pending Cohort Zero pilot feedback.

### Added
- **`oscillator-model.md`** — four-parameter damped-oscillator model (ω, A, φ, ζ) with three macro-traits (Coherence, Resonance, Dissipation). Replaces v1's Dunbar framing with thermodynamic ceiling.
- **`cascade-hexgrid-spec.md`** — canonical 127-hex / 7-ring / 5-currency substrate spec. New ring names aligned with the canonical Cascade document.
- **`energy-budget-protocol.md`** — daily operating layer: 1–100 self-reported energy, energy-cost-per-relationship formula, Hourglass-as-ledger, weekly capacity check, promotion/demotion protocol, failure modes.
- **`integration-with-v1.md`** — migration map from v1 to v2; updated §5 SOP; explicit list of what changed and what didn't.
- **`sources/fact-check-notes.md`** — verification status of every empirical claim with citations (Dunbar, Altman & Taylor, Bernieri & Rosenthal, Giles, Gottman, damped-oscillator physics).
- **`sources/oscillator-theory.md`** — original source document for the Oscillator Model.
- **`sources/cascade-hexgrid.pdf`** — original canonical spec PDF.
- **`CHANGELOG.md`** — this document.
- **`decisions/2026-06-25-merge-vs-separate.md`** — decision record with three options analyzed; recommendation Option B (separate), Option C (composite) as v2.1 enhancement

### Changed
- **Course SOP §5 (Cascade Tracking Setup)** — added daily energy check-in (#2), Hourglass ledger init (#5), weekly capacity check (#6).
- **Ring names** — v1's R1 Inner Circle, R2 Extended Network, R3 Vectors, R4 Confirmation Ring, R5 Daily Awareness, R6 Hourly/Real-time → v2's R0 You, R1 Inner Circle, R2 Archetypes, R3 The Longing, R4 The Echo, R5 The Wave, R6 The Current (per the canonical spec).
- **Hourglass currency** — was: quarterly values quiz. Now: running energy ledger (timestamped spent/received events).
- **Cascade ceiling framing** — was: Dunbar-bounded (~150 max, neocortical constraint). Now: thermodynamic (energy-budget-bounded, dynamic per life season).

### Preserved
- `CORE-CLAIM-REVISED.md` — unchanged. ⤫ co-arising pivot is still the philosophical foundation.
- `five-field-framework.md` — unchanged.
- `waterstorage-integration.md` — unchanged and now explicitly mapped to the energy budget protocol.
- `nine-brain-architecture.md` — unchanged.
- `tracks-structure.md` — unchanged.
- `honeycomb-town-case-study.md` — unchanged.
- `frohlich-coherence-integration.md` — unchanged.

### Deprecated (not deleted — historical reference only)
- v1 `cascade-integration.md` — superseded by v2's three-document stack but kept in v1 for continuity.

### Research Anchors Verified
All empirical claims in the Oscillator Model have been verified against current peer-reviewed literature:
- Dunbar 1992 (and modern critiques)
- Altman & Taylor 1973
- Bernieri & Rosenthal 1991
- Giles 1973 et seq. (CAT)
- Gottman Method / 3RS literature
- Standard damped-oscillator physics (ζ definition, regimes)

See `sources/fact-check-notes.md` for the full verification record.

### Session 3 (2026-06-26) — Research dossier + evidence pillars

**Added:**
- `research/zo-pub-revswirl-dossier.md` — fact-checked analysis of 7 zo.pub/revswirl brainstorms (pulses 58, 60, 61, 62, 63, 64 + audit). Each sorted into Tier 1 (peer-reviewed), Tier 2 (contested), or Tier 3 (speculative).
- `soft-inheritance-evidence.md` — **Tier 1 evidence pillar.** Peer-reviewed foundation for the soft-inheritance revival: Jablonka-Lamb four-inheritance framework, Överkalix/ALSPAC human cohorts, Dias & Ressler, Skinner, Heard & Martienssen skeptic review. Replaces vague "Lamarckian" language with "context-sensitive multigenerational inheritance."
- `field-state-evidence.md` — **Tier 1-2 evidence pillar.** Peer-reviewed bioelectromagnetic evidence: cardiac field (McCraty 2009), cryptochrome magnetoreception (Ahmad 2024, Xu 2023), photosynthetic coherence (Engel 2007, Collini 2010), Schumann-EEG coupling (Persinger/Saroka 2016), infrasound mechanotransduction (Weber 2024), microbiome vertical transmission (Yassour 2019). Sovereign-intent framing deliberately excluded; speculative extension is in the optional module.
- `fungal-networks-case-study.md` — **Tier 1 ecological pillar.** Common mycorrhizal networks (Simard 1997), defense signaling (Babikova 2013), kin recognition (File 2012), electrical spiking (Adamatzky 2025). The clearest peer-reviewed physical analog of substrate-mediated information transfer.
- `sovereign-intent-speculative-module.md` — **Optional Module 12, Tier 3.** Reframed from the original pulse-58 Sovereign Intent Module. Keeps HRV coherence training, EMF hygiene, lineage practice. Drops the claim that intent deterministically edits the germline. Every session labeled with its epistemic tier.

**Adopted as v2 standard:**
- The audit's tiering framework (Tier 1 / Tier 2 / Tier 3) is now v2's epistemic standard
- The audit's "honest one-sentence version" is adopted as a guiding principle: *"Soft inheritance exists within tight biological constraints, bioelectricity is a real within-organism memory medium, and the leap from those facts to a universal field of consciousness is currently unsupported by the evidence presented."*
- Every v2 claim that rests on empirical research is now tagged by tier

**Changed:**
- README file index expanded with 5 new documents
- The conceptual stack diagram in README now includes the evidence pillars

## v2.1 — 2026-06-27

**Minor amendment.** Adds a third theoretical lens (Information-Theory Integration) and corrects three lineage/citation issues surfaced by a 5-iteration research cycle.

### Added
- **`information-theory-integration.md` NEW** — Three substrate-independent principles grafted onto the existing architecture as a sibling doc to `oscillator-model.md` and `energy-budget-protocol.md`. Each principle earns its place by explaining something the existing v2 docs don't quite capture, or grounding a metaphor already doing implicit work:
  - **E1 — Landauer's floor:** `E_min = k_B T ln 2` per bit. Grounds Hourglasses as a real currency, not a metaphor. Composes with the Oscillator Model's empirical cost formula by providing a non-zero floor.
  - **E2 — Coherence time / entropy rate:** `τ_coh ~ 1/Γ_erase` (classical) refined by temporal-network entropy-rate for relational systems specifically. Explains why R6 costs more than R4 at matched warmth band.
  - **E3 — Channel capacity as analogical bridge:** `C = B log_2(1 + SNR)`. Provides an information-theoretic *why* for saturation. Explicitly framed as analogy, not derivation (Dunbar's historical origin is neocortex ratio, not Shannon capacity).
- **Three falsifiability questions** — Each principle makes a cohort-testable prediction with explicit failure criteria. Mirrors the CνB paper v2.0's discipline that a model that can't be checked isn't a model.
- **Crowd-funded science roadmap (2027–2029)** — Three experiments at $0–$10K scale that the existing cohort infrastructure can run. Contrast with the CνB paper's 2030–2040 timeline requiring billion-dollar flagship experiments.

### Changed
- **`cascade-hexgrid-spec.md` line 32** — Wording fix: "the geometric upper bound of the canonical map" → "the 7th centered hexagonal number (OEIS A003215; MathWorld), a design choice for a 7-ring close-packing, not an empirically validated limit or a universal geometric theorem." The arithmetic was correct; the precise mathematical term was missing.
- **`information-theory-integration.md` §E3** — Explicit framing that Shannon's formula in social/relational systems is **an analogy, not a derivation**, and that Dunbar's number is historically neocortex-derived. This is required by the research findings across 5 iterations.

### Corrected (lineage)
- **Cortês & Liddle 2024 misattribution.** The CνB paper v2.0 cited this as a Landauer+CνB bridge paper. The actual paper is about Hawking evaporation and Landauer, not CνB. v2.1 does not propagate this citation. If a Landauer–CνB bridge paper is needed in future, it must be sourced independently.
- **"Geometric upper bound" wording.** Replaced with the precise mathematical term (7th centered hexagonal number). The 127 count is correct; the previous wording implied a universal geometric theorem that does not exist.
- **Shannon channel capacity framing.** v2.1 explicitly says the Shannon formula is an analogical bridge for relational systems, not a derivation. Dunbar's number is historically neocortex-based, and v2 has already moved past Dunbar as a load-bearing premise (per the v2 entry above). E3 does not re-install Dunbar under a different name.

### Preserved
- Substrate (127 hexes, 7 rings, 5 currencies, warmth bands) — unchanged.
- Oscillator Model parameters (`ω, A, φ, ζ`) and the three macro-traits — unchanged.
- Energy Budget Protocol's Daily Three, four patterns, and failure modes — unchanged.
- The v2 entry's honest-vs-functional tension notes — unchanged.
- Five Field Framework, Nine-Brain Architecture, Core Claim, waterstorage integration — all unchanged.

### Deferred to v3
The research cycle surfaced three additional candidates that were **not** promoted into v2.1 because they are v3-promotion-gated, not v2.1-amendment-eligible:
- Relative entropy / entropy rate as a fourth substrate-independent principle (stronger fit for social/organizational systems than static channel capacity).
- Asymmetric ζ as a vector (`ζ_self`, `ζ_other`) with coupling term — pending re-derivation rather than a v2.1 add.
- Stochastic thermodynamics of social imitation (arxiv 2511.14006) as a fifth principle candidate.

### v3 promotion criterion (newly specified)
v3 promotion is contingent on **both**:
1. Cohort Zero pilot data validates the v2 substrate (127 hexes, 5 currencies, 7 rings, warmth bands, energy budget protocol).
2. At least one of E1, E2, E3 survives a falsifiability test with N>20 cohort data.

Until both gates clear, v2.1 stands as the canonical theoretical layer.

### Research artifact
- **`research/it-integration-research-log.md`** — 5-iteration research cycle (10-min intervals). Each iteration records: queries run, top sources found, fact-check status of the 7 claims, new angles surfaced, and a continue/converge recommendation. The convergence-detection heuristic is built in but did not trigger (research remained productive across all 5 iterations).
