# Integration with v1

**How v2 supersedes and extends v1**

*v1 lives at `../course-foundation-v1/`. This document records what v2 keeps, what it replaces, what it adds, and what it leaves for future work.*

## What v2 Keeps from v1

| v1 document | v2 status |
|---|---|
| `CORE-CLAIM-REVISED.md` | **Kept unchanged.** The ⤫ co-arising pivot is still the philosophical foundation of the course. |
| `five-field-framework.md` | **Kept unchanged.** Phase / Field / Arc / Form / Lattice is the conceptual core. v2's oscillator physics is compatible with the Phase field's existing coupled-oscillator framing. |
| `waterstorage-integration.md` | **Kept unchanged.** WaterStorage describes the flow layer between fields; the Oscillator Model describes the relational substrate within the Lattice field. They are orthogonal and complementary. |
| `COURSE-SOP.md` | **Kept, with revisions noted below.** |
| `track-structure.md` (Practitioner / Leadership / Technical paths) | **Kept.** All three paths gain new content but not new pricing. |

## What v2 Replaces from v1

### 1. `cascade-integration.md` (v1) → `oscillator-model.md` + `cascade-hexgrid-spec.md` + `energy-budget-protocol.md` (v2)

**What changed:**

| v1 claim | v2 replacement |
|---|---|
| "126 hexes / 6 rings" substrate | "127 hexes / 7 rings" (canonical from `cascade-hexgrid.pdf`) |
| Ring names: Inner Circle / Extended Network / Vectors / Confirmation Ring / Daily Awareness / Hourly | Ring names: Inner Circle / Archetypes / The Longing / The Echo / The Wave / The Current |
| Dunbar's number as cognitive ceiling for ~150 relationships | Oscillator Model with thermodynamic energy ceiling (dynamic, not fixed) |
| Hourglasses as quarterly values-quiz score | Hourglasses as running energy ledger (spent vs. received) |
| Hearts / Stars / Hourglasses / (3 currencies) | Hearts / Stars / Moons / Hourglasses / Balloons (5 currencies, with warmth bands) |
| No explicit ring-transition logic | Ring transitions governed by ζ-drop mechanism (§4 of oscillator-model.md) |

### 2. `nine-brain-architecture.md` (v1) → kept, but with note

The v1 nine-brain architecture (medulla through corpus) is the operator's internal architecture. v2 adds the **external** relational substrate (the Oscillator Model + hexgrid), but does not modify the nine-brain architecture itself.

The amygdala now has a specific role: it flags Pattern 3 (Overdrawer) in the Energy Budget Protocol. This is a new assignment, not a change to the brain's role.

### 3. `honeycomb-town-case-study.md` (v1) → kept

Honeycomb Town remains a valid case study. v2's substrate model is compatible with the cell-structure framework.

## What v2 Adds (New in v2)

### 1. The Oscillator Model (new theoretical layer)

Four parameters (ω, A, φ, ζ) producing three macro-traits (Coherence, Resonance, Dissipation) with a causal chain ending in ring promotion. See `oscillator-model.md`.

### 2. The Cascade Hexgrid Spec (canonical substrate)

The canonical 127-hex / 7-ring / 5-currency / 5-warmth-band reference. Replaces the v1 cascade integration's informal description. See `cascade-hexgrid-spec.md`.

### 3. The Energy Budget Protocol (operational layer)

The Daily Three: 3 minutes, 1 number in (E_available), 1 number out (E_total), 1 decision made. Replaces the v1 hourglass quarterly quiz. See `energy-budget-protocol.md`.

### 4. The Four Patterns (Saturator / Investor / Overdrawer / Throttler)

A diagnostic vocabulary for the cohort member's relationship to their energy budget. Useful for facilitators in the Leadership Path and for self-monitoring in the Practitioner Path.

### 5. Fact-check notes (new methodology)

Every empirical claim in v2 is verified against current research. v1 did not document its evidence base; v2 does. See `sources/fact-check-notes.md`.

### 6. CHANGELOG

v1 had no changelog. v2 starts one. See `CHANGELOG.md`.

---

## What v2 Leaves for v3

### 1. Detailed ring-transition logic

v2 specifies that ring promotion follows from ζ-drop (§4 of oscillator-model.md) but does not specify the exact threshold function. v3 should codify this — possibly as a parameter α such that promotion occurs when `ζ(t) < ζ_threshold(ω)`.

### 2. Asymmetric ζ handling

v2 explicitly adopts symmetric ζ as a simplification. v3 should explore asymmetric ζ models — perhaps as a vector (ζ_self, ζ_other) with a coupling term. The Gottman one-sided-repair pattern could be formalized this way.

### 3. Cohort-level dynamics

v2 operates at the dyad level. v3 should explore how the Oscillator Model composes upward to cells, cohorts, and teams. The Leadership Path is the natural home for this.

### 4. Empirical validation

The Oscillator Model's structural predictions are not yet tested (see `sources/fact-check-notes.md`). Cohort Zero pilot data is the natural first sample.

### 5. App implementation

The Energy Budget Protocol is implementable as a Cascade app feature. Technical Path deliverable.

## Pricing Implications (none for v2)

v2 does **not** change the pricing structure of v1:

| Path | Price (from v1) | v2 impact |
|---|---|---|
| Foundations | $197 | Adds Oscillator Model preview; no price change |
| Practitioner Path | $591 | Adds Energy Budget Protocol; no price change |
| Technical Path | $591 | Adds Oscillator Model parameter mapping; no price change |
| Leadership Path | $394 | Adds Four Patterns / cohort-level dynamics preview; no price change |
| Full Framework | $797 | Bundles all of the above; no price change |

## Migration Path for v1 Readers

If a v1 reader (cohort member, advisor, collaborator) wants to migrate to v2:

1. **Read `oscillator-model.md` first.** This is the new theoretical layer.
2. **Then read `cascade-hexgrid-spec.md`.** This updates the substrate.
3. **Then read `energy-budget-protocol.md`.** This is what they will actually do.
4. **Skim `sources/fact-check-notes.md`.** For confidence in the empirical claims.
5. **Reference `integration-with-v1.md` (this doc)** for what changed and why.

Total reading time: ~45 minutes for full migration.

## Open Questions for Cohort Feedback

1. Do the ring names (Inner Circle / Archetypes / The Longing / The Echo / The Wave / The Current) feel right?
2. Does the Energy Budget Protocol's Daily Three feel sustainable at 3 minutes/day?
3. Does the symmetric-ζ simplification feel honest, or does it paper over real asymmetries?
4. Should Hourglasses be a separate currency (as in v2) or merge with Hearts (as in v1)?
5. Should R0 ("You") be a hex, or should the operator sit outside the map?

---

*This is the integration map. v1 is not deleted — it is the foundation v2 builds on. v2 is the substrate revision v1 was waiting for.*
