# Anthrocybernetics Course Foundation v2

**A shared reference for collaborators, advisors, and early reviewers.**

## What This Folder Contains

This is the **v2 foundation** for the Anthrocybernetics course. It supersedes v1 (`../course-foundation-v1/`) by integrating two new source documents into the substrate model:

1. **The Oscillator Model** (`oscillator-model.md`) — a thermodynamic re-foundation of Cascade's ring system, replacing the Dunbar's-number framing
2. **The Cascade Hexgrid Specification** (`cascade-hexgrid-spec.md`) — the canonical 127-hex / 7-ring / 5-currency substrate spec

Both source documents are preserved in `sources/` along with a fact-check notes file documenting the verification status of every empirical claim.

## ⚠️ Key Revision (2026-06-25)

**The substrate model has been replaced based on theoretical deepening.**

The v1 model assumed Cascade's ring ceiling was Dunbar's number (~150) — a *cognitive* limit. The v2 model reframes it as **thermodynamic**: the ceiling is wherever total energy expenditure across all active relationships meets the person's available energy budget.

**The revision:**
- **Old:** Cascade ceiling ≈ Dunbar's number (~150), fixed by neocortex capacity for tracking relationship state
- **New:** Cascade ceiling = dynamic, energy-budget-dependent, varies by person and life season

This strengthens the framework in three ways:
1. **Removes a contested empirical foundation.** Dunbar's number has substantive modern critique; v2 doesn't need it.
2. **Makes the ceiling personal and honest.** Some people have 12 relationships and a full life. Others have 200 and a depleted one. v2 reflects this.
3. **Generates a real operating protocol.** Energy budgets are *measurable*. The Oscillator Model gives Cascade a daily practice, not just a categorization scheme.

**For theoretical feedback:**
- Read `oscillator-model.md` first
- Then `sources/fact-check-notes.md` to see what is empirically grounded vs. interpretive
- Comment on the four-parameter mapping (ω, A, φ, ζ) and the symmetric-ζ simplification

**For substrate/operational feedback:**
- Read `cascade-hexgrid-spec.md` (the canonical ring/currency/warmth spec)
- Then `energy-budget-protocol.md` (the daily practice layer)
- Comment on the daily rhythm, the promotion/demotion protocol, the failure modes

**For migration questions:**
- Read `integration-with-v1.md` for the explicit mapping
- v1 documents remain in `../course-foundation-v1/` for historical continuity
