## 9. The Daily Three

A system does not need a perfect map to make one better decision.

The **Daily Three** is a short practice for noticing available capacity, current relational load, and one structural adjustment. It is designed to interrupt automatic overcommitment. It is not a mood score, medical assessment, or objective reading of biological energy.

Use it at roughly the same time each day. Three minutes is enough. Five is fine. The point is repeatability, not performance.

## 1. Report available capacity

Write a number from 1 to 100 for your available capacity today.

Use the number to represent the attention, time, care, and repair capacity you can realistically bring to active commitments. Consider:

- sleep and physical recovery;
- existing obligations;
- emotional bandwidth;
- concentration;
- money, transport, or time constraints;
- unresolved repair;
- room for unexpected events.

Do not use this as a verdict about your worth. A low-capacity day is information, not a character defect.

## 2. Estimate current load

List the active commitments or connections that are consuming meaningful capacity.

## Read load qualitatively

Do not calculate relational load in this Workbook. Describe it across three dimensions:

- **Intensity:** how much attention, effort, emotion, risk, or resource one exchange requires;
- **Tempo:** how often the exchange or demand repeats;
- **Repair burden:** how much recovery, clarification, coordination, or trust rebuilding follows.

When all three are high, treat the connection as a high-load condition. When only one is high, name that variable rather than compressing the whole relationship into a score. A low-intensity connection can still be expensive when it demands constant attention. A high-intensity connection may be manageable when it is infrequent and easy to repair.

Use repeated observations, plain descriptions, and proportionate decisions. Do not compare your capacity estimate with someone else’s or imply that a relationship has a directly measurable energy quantity.

## 3. Make one structural decision

Choose one decision that changes the arrangement rather than merely expressing a wish.

One decision per day prevents reactive thrashing. A system that makes ten dramatic changes at once cannot tell which change mattered.

## Four recurring capacity patterns

These are working descriptions, not identity labels.

### Saturator

Current load roughly matches available capacity. The system is functioning but has little room for expansion or surprise.

**Useful response:** protect margins before adding commitments.

### Investor

Capacity exceeds current load for long enough to support repair, depth, learning, or carefully chosen expansion.

**Useful response:** invest deliberately rather than filling every empty space.

### Overdrawer

Current load exceeds capacity for a sustained period. The system is relying on deficit.

**Useful response:** make a structural reduction, not a motivational speech.

### Throttler

The deficit is large enough that active reduction is required. Throttling protects the system from further damage.

**Useful response:** lower tempo, narrow inputs, defer nonessential commitments, and secure recovery.

Throttling is not failure. A spacecraft that reduces output during a power shortage is not morally weak. It is trying to remain operational.

## Seven-day review

Run the Daily Three for seven days, then review the pattern.

Ask:

- Did capacity vary with a predictable field condition?
- Which load was consistently underestimated?
- Did structural decisions change the result?
- Did repair burden rise, fall, or remain unclear?
- What should be maintained, reduced, or investigated next?

## Boundaries of the practice

The Daily Three should not be used to:

- rank people by worth;
- decide whether someone deserves care;
- replace direct communication;
- diagnose illness;
- justify coercive monitoring;
- convert uncertainty into false numerical precision.

If a person is in danger, severe distress, medical crisis, or an abusive situation, use appropriate professional, emergency, or community support. A worksheet is not a rescue service.
