The **Wuxing (Five Elements)** framework from Chinese philosophy provides the structural scaffold for organizing these domains. Each element corresponds to a natural process, and each process maps onto a domain of anthrocybernetic inquiry. The five sub-fields together form a complete cycle — each generating the next, each controlling another — mirroring the Wuxing generating (木→火→土→金→水→木) and controlling (水⸳火⸳金⸳木⸳土⸳水) relationships.

**Why this is distinct from Somative:** Somative is the body's internal field dynamics. Ecological is the external environmental field dynamics that impinge on and interact with the body. The environment is the forcing field; the body is the oscillator. The two are coupled, but the forcing field originates outside the organism.

This is not coincidence: it reflects that cultural artifacts are resonant structures with φ-adjacent internal ratios that engage stable human perceptual and emotional oscillator patterns.

**Why Earth:** Earth is the element of accumulation, memory, and grounding. Cultural artifacts are what civilizations accumulate and preserve. They are the ground on which subsequent generations stand — the Lethe and Akashic of entire civilizations. A culture's health is determined partly by what its resonant artifacts preserve (Akashic integrity) and what they are allowed to forget (Lethe: intentional omission vs. accidental erasure).

**Why this is the fifth domain:** After Water (the body's internal field), Wood (the environmental forcing field), Fire (the aesthetic ignition of individual consciousness), and Metal (the binding of individual consciousness into organizational structures), Earth completes the cycle: the accumulated residue of all previous cycles, replayed across generations. **The Purdue connection:** Purdue University is a repository and transmission mechanism for Historical Anthrocybernetics — particularly through its history of science and philosophy programs. The discipline proposal at Purdue would be the first institutional acknowledgment of the domain as a coherent field. The fact that the Purdue Research Park is on former industrial land (Crown Point) makes the ecological and historical layers literally grounded — the environment and the artifact are the same ground.
