# NWI Occupational Exposure Baseline Pilot

## EMF + Infrasound Monitoring in the Hammond-Whiting-East Chicago Industrial Corridor

---

## Project Overview

This pilot proposes establishing the first baseline dataset on electromagnetic field (EMF) and infrasound exposure in the Hammond-Whiting-East Chicago industrial corridor — home to 15,000+ workers at major employers including BP Whiting Refinery, Cleveland-Cliffs steel mills, Unilever, Dover Chemical, and Cargill.

The West Lake Corridor (electrified Monon Line) opened March 31, 2026, introducing new infrastructure to an already heavily industrialized region. **No baseline exposure data exists.**

## The Ask

**SBDC Letter of Support** — endorsement, not funding

This unlocks:
- SBIR Phase I funding ($323,090)
- Purdue RF Alliance equipment access
- Regional positioning as occupational health leader

---

## Key Framing

**This is environmental due diligence, not disease investigation.**

The same logic as:
- Phase I environmental site assessments
- Radon testing before home purchase
- Lead paint surveys

We measure exposure. We establish baseline. We don't assert harm.
