This run continues the Great Lakes pilot at the next unresolved bridge: a dated industrial and infrastructure baseline inside the SOP’s 1800–1950 band, paired with a modern authoritative watershed record. It does not claim that Lake County is coterminous with the fixed sector.

## Spatial crosswalk

The project sector record defines `N05_E18` as 37.5–45.0° N and 270–285° E (90–75° W), with Merrillville, Indiana as a human anchor. The 1921 source describes Lake County, Indiana, a county-level footprint that is smaller than and not equivalent to the canonical cell. The source therefore supports a historical place/administrative observation related to the sector, not a cell-wide observation.

The modern USGS Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) point query at the Merrillville anchor (41.4828° N, 87.3327° W) returns HUC-10 `0404000105`, **Little Calumet River–Deep River**. The returned attribute record reports 507.98 km², source originators NRCS and USGS, and a WBD load timestamp of 2024-08-15 13:01:21 UTC. This is a local hydrologic anchor, not the fixed cell’s water composition.

A preliminary geometry check against the project’s rectangular latitude/longitude envelope is intentionally labeled an **envelope proxy**, not the canonical sector polygon: the project does not yet provide a machine-readable fixed-cell boundary suitable for an auditable intersection. The returned HUC-10 is therefore recorded as a point-selected modern object, not as a completed sector-overlap calculation.

## Source interpretation

The 1921 record supports a bounded interpretation: by 1920, the Lake County administrative area was documenting a dense industrial and transport system with substantial reported employment, rail presence, and lake/river-port infrastructure. The source also shows that drainage, dunes, housing, schools, and industrial expansion were being discussed together as county development problems. That combination is relevant to the project’s proposed constraint and adaptive-capacity variables, but it is not itself a causal test of the thesis.

The source is especially useful as a historical bridge because it supplies a dated, local statistical snapshot before the mid-century industrial peak. It should be compared with the project’s modern WQP, USGS, Census, energy, and infrastructure records only after the geographic footprints and variable definitions are crosswalked.
